The “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” Year 10 Class used the IWB today to play a simulation at http://www.mcvideogame.com/index-eng.html. The purpose of the site as explained by the site is below:
”For decades McDonald’s corporation has been heavily criticized for his negative impact on society and environment. There are inevitably some glitches in our activity: rainforest destruction, livelihood losses in the third world, desertification, precarization of working conditions, food poisoning and so on…
Denying all these well founded accusations would be impossible so we decided to create an online game to explain to young people that this is the price to pay in order to preserve our lifestyle”
Reflection:
It was interesting to note that most students were really involved in the activity. It was great to see them working together to try to get the best outcome. Also to hear them discuss the alternatives or options in the game.
One Aboriginal Boy really liked it. Afterwards he raced upstairs to continue the activity on his own computer. I asked Simon later if the boy was generally engaged in class. Simon said that it depended on the activity. This goes to support the theory that the IWBs will be especially effective with boys and Aboriginal students.
The students were also very interested in how the IWB works.
I had them sit on the floor or the bench seat. They didn’t like this but it gave easy access to the board. I do not know how well this will work with a big class (>20).
